Testing of smart components

More than testing – also initialising.

What is this about?

From first contact to release.

For smart components, testing the housing is not enough. SonicTC contacts the ECU, assigns bus addresses, writes calibration values and runs electrical and acoustic tests in the same sequence.

The result: end-of-line tests that not only classify the part but also parametrise it – ready for assembly.

Benefits

What you get.

Smart actuators such as e-motors, inverters and ECUs are often contacted for the first time at end-of-line. SonicTC handles addressing, diagnosis, calibration and functional testing – in one sequence.

LIN/CAN auto-addressing

Multiple bus nodes get addressed by position – automatically and reproducibly.

EEPROM calibration

Read serial numbers, write calibration values, LIN diagnostic frame – inside the test sequence.

Secure communication

Encrypted messages and checksums for components with elevated security demands.

Back-to-back tests

Two identical components in parallel – ideal for drivetrains and e-motor pairs.

In the system

Here is what it looks like.

Assign addresses before anything gets tested.

When several LIN nodes share one bus, they are indistinguishable at first. Auto-addressing assigns each slave its address (NAD) according to its position on the bus – automatically and reproducibly.

Only then can the nodes be addressed, diagnosed and calibrated individually.

Diagram of LIN auto-addressing: one LIN master supplies three LIN slaves via GND, Usupply and the LIN line; each slave receives its address NAD 1 to 3 according to its position
In detail

What else happens within the end-of-line cycle.

Auto-addressing

Several LIN slaves receive their address by position – the precondition for addressing them individually at all.

Encryption & checksum

Where security and data integrity demands are elevated, messages are encrypted and carry a checksum.

Multiplexing

Measurement data from several nodes is transmitted and captured in bundled form – less bus load, more quantities.

EEPROM & diagnostics

Read serial numbers and write calibration values via the LIN diagnostic frame protocol – within the same test run.

Back-to-back testing

Two identical components test each other – for instance two electric motors as drive and load.

Electrics and acoustics together

Electrical tests, bus communication and vibration analysis run in one sequence instead of at three stations.
